Winter 2015 February 2 Monday

16 degrees this morning, (8 degrees wind chill)  44:25 minutes walking

The Super Bowl is finally  over.  I have to admit some of the ads were pretty good and it was a good game.

It was hard to decide who to be for (or against, probably in this case since neither team is anywhere near a favorite), but it was a good game.

Our main problem was avoiding looking at our cell phones and computers since we had taped the game and were watching a tape of it.

Also, there was the matter of not being able to fast-forward much, since we wanted to watch some of the  commercials.  We were able to skip some of the more banal stuff and the half-time show, although some of it was impressive also.

The wind came up yesterday and it is COLD out there!

We drove and looked at some housing  alternatives, assuming we don't renew the lease for our present house.  We may or may not, depending on several factors.  It is fun to look, if nothing else, and we need to have some alternatives in case increase the lease and/or and don’ fix the front driveway, which has sunk and everyone looks at us like “why don’t you do something about that”.  (Or at least we think they do.)  What is worse, is if someone trips and gets hurt.

Of course  one of the biggest advantages are the tax benefits and the chance of appreciation. and feeling like we can make changes

On the disadvantage side,  we are concerned about the earthquakes and the possible damage from earthquakes as well as the surprise repairs that can be very expensive to repair.

Anyway, it is good to have some alternatives if needed.

I didn’t try to do any work on the tax return today, didn’t want to get too frustrated with it.  Actually, it is just a matter of analyzing it.  Fortunately, Aliene is excellent at keeping records, so that really helps.

The first of the month is here, which I always like, since it is when we get a bunch of new accounts to work.  It is kind of like opening a lot of presents at Christmas, go maybe getting the mail and getting a bunch of interesting mail that isn’t just bills or advertising.

I like the anticipation of new problems, new solutions and especially some new accounts to work.  While I enjoy making the progress on the accounts throughout the month, it is fun to get  a bunch of new ones.

Got some more books from the County Library to keep whittling down my “tu it” list of books to read.

It is really a wonderful library system, to someone who loves books and libraries it is a real pleasure to use it, especially after the Memphis system.  As I emphasize, the librarians at the Memphis library system were wonderful, it was the system that was poor.  I will never understand why they let the Memphis Library get into the shape it was.

Memphis was emphasizing attracting the “creative class” and a poor library system run by a political crony who has no training in library management is hardly the way to do it.

That’s it for now, Monday, February 2, 2015.
