Summer 2015 July 8 Wednesday

65 degrees this morning, rain, no walk

Rain all day yesterday, generally light slow rain and cooler weather came in.

I have decided to stop all “automatic’ payments, they tend to turn into annuities for magazines, computer programs etc. as they become almost impossible to stop.  One way is to cancel the credit card.

Several years ago, in a misguided moment I brought a program that I could not  figure out how to use (from Network Solutions)  I could never get a callback from the company or help in the program, so I finally gave up.  Guess who I get five e-mails a day from now asking if I need any help and “warning” me that the program I never use is going to expire because they can’t charge my credit card?

Sometimes I really wonder how some businesses stay in business.  Builders are another example.  You pay what to you is an enormous sum for a house and then the builder acts like, “what, you expect it to be perfect”.  Actually, I do.

I am trying to decide what kind of gym to join.  I hate to miss my  walk when it rains.  Although an occasional rest is good, the mud in the streets from the irresponsible builders makes it several days after a rain.

Basically I have a choice between a 24 hour gym, without a pool and much else other than the basics (which are usually enough for me) and the YMCA which has a lot more, but the hours  are a lot more restrictive and don’t fit my hours.

However, I normally don’t walk inside (too boring) or or course ride my bike inside.  While a stationary  bike (or treadmills) is ok, it is much better exercise outside.

On the other hand, maybe it is time I did try something different (at least several times a week or when it rains) such as some of the other type equipment.  That, along with swimming, could be good exercise, although I think my basic exercise will always be walking and biking outside.

Moving continues.  We haven’t made a lot of progress since Sunday (at least I haven’t, Aliene has) as we take a breather.  Of course, this is the really hard part of making decisions on where to put things.

Somehow, I think I have unpacked everything and suddenly another box of books or office supplies or “souvenirs” appears.

A local group is offering classes (one night per week for two weeks) in “Home Owner Association” legalities etc.  I am taking them as a from of self-protection.

As I have mentioned previously, cities are requiring HOA’s to take on more and more expenses (parks, drainage etc.) and abandoning the principle that some basic necessities are best provided by the city.

The park space required for new developments is woefully small, as they cram a small amount of park space into a very dense development.

I expect the city will incur more costs in trying to resolve the problems created by this set up (crime etc.) than they would have if they had done it right in the first place.

Extremely poor planning here and short-sighted thinking.

Office day yesterday for work as I caught up on paperwork etc.  Today is another busy field day as I take care of the “first of the month” items and get to know the businesses and people and situations involved in this months  tasks.

I have found that some people I see almost every month, but there are always new people, businesses and and situations that occur.

It is a never ending tapestry of events, people, businesses and situations.  (Thank goodness, that keeps it interesting!)

That’s it for now, Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
