Spring 2015 June 6 Saturday (Moving Day)

72 degrees this morning.

“Moving Day” is today.  We have actually been moving items for some time, today is when we actually move the furniture and move to our new house.  (Probably moving will continue for some time as we live out of boxes etc.)

I had planned to walk my normal walk one last time, but decided not to when I got up this morning and realized I was facing a full day of heavy physical activity after a lot of moving last night also.  Also, just a matter of using time to the best advantage.

As always, we  will wonder if we made the right decision or not, but it doesn’t really matter, since we will need to live with it  No major items, overall we feel like we made the best decision we could for us.

Internet access won’t be available for us until tomorrow (Sunday) and even then it will take time to hook up everything again and try to remember how to connect everything!

As I mentioned yesterday, this journal is likely to be erratic for awhile until we get our internet connected and a new routine is established.

Of course then we will have the problem of arranging furniture etc. in our new house.  Technically it is exactly the same size as our existing house, but of course it is arranged differently and may pose challenges that I’m sure we can work out.

The problem with moving (and sometimes a good thing) is that that it is never ending.  Like writing a report etc, it is never ending, since you can always change something (hopefully for the best) as you strive for perfection but never achieve it.

One big benefit, my current office, for some odd reason, does not have a ceiling fan or a cable tv/internet jack and also tends to get extremely warm or cold.  The new office does have this.  In some areas of the house we have more space, in some less space etc.

We will be without a refrigerator for several days, although we will have a “garage refrigerator” (doesn’t have a freezer, crisper etc.) that will have to do.

I”m not sure what I will do for my walk tomorrow morning, it will be a matter of exploring the area and seeing what works. In the near future,  I also will get my bicycle route figured out an look at area gym’s and the YMCA to see what may work.

I think owning a home gives you more a sense of being permanent, at least as permanent as you can be.  While renting was nice in the lot of ways, you always have this feeling impermanence, or at least I did,

Probably the major factor is simply saving on taxes and being in control of your environment. As an example, our current house has a driveway that is sinking and, in our opinion dangerous and an eyesore.  The owner wouldn’t fix it for some reason, which, while it is a nice house, made us feel like we were living in a substandard house.

Another example, while we appreciated the quick fix when the water heater went out, we were surprised when a much smaller water heater was installed as a replacement, with a “5 year guarantee”, which seemed to be the ultimate in cheapness.  Also, the new water heater ran out of hot water, not all the time, but enough to be a nuisance.

While our lease doesn’t expire yet, this is essentially the last day in this this house.  Signing off from this location.

That’s it of now, Saturday, June 6, 2015.
