2016 Fall October 16 Sunday

72 degrees this morning, walk 36:35 minutes

Interesting article yesterday that spectator “e-sports”  are becoming popular.  Basically it includes (either at home or even in movie theaters) people watch other people playing video games.

The theme of the story was, is this the future of spectator sports and are the “normal” sports set for decline as more (primarily younger) people pay more attention (and spend more money on) “e-sports” as opposed to regular sports.

I have to admit, the thought of watching someone else play a video game (either a regular type or n adventure game) is about as thrilling as watching paint dry, but that really isn’t the point.

Frankly i don’t care either way, I think sports are way overemphasized ($90 million dollar football stadiums for high school football is a great example), and probably “e-sports” will be just as overemphasized as the current popular sports are.

It does make you wonder about all of the money spent on sports stadiums etc. now.

Of course, when television came out everyone thought it would kill the movie theaters.  In a way it did, as they existed when television came out, but they adapted and now continue to  thrive.

I can remember an old story (written before tv became popular) where the writer theorized that we would evolve huge ears from listening to radio so much.

Of course, that didn’t happen, television came out, then the internet etc.  and radio evolved into a new format (or formats) that enabled it to survive.

I assume it is natural to assume that television would kill radio etc., but it didn’t.

Unlike the car, that killed the horse and carriage as general transportation, tv did not kill the movie theatre or radio.

Somehow, radio and move theaters evolved and adapted to the new reality whereas the horse and carriage didn’t.

Perhaps books, magazines and newspapers are the same.  While “e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers etc. are popular there is still a large number of persons who continue to read “regular” newspapers, magazines and newspapers.

Actually, I think “e-magazines” are probably set to become more popular than regular magazines  By the time a magazines is printed, it is basically obsolete.  Perhaps the same could be said for books and newspapers, but they have different time frames.

Although most of the “e-magazines” are not updated, I think the future of such magazines will be continuously updated, just like newspaper are continuously updated now.

I can see a future where magazines and newspapers basically meld together and become one product, as is actually happening now.

Probably an entire new product will evolve, probably evolving an entirely new format the isn’t a magazine or a newspaper.

We are starting to work out at a new gym and it is perfect (for me) to read magazines on my iPad, and I also could read my newspapers on it, without having to carry a lot of paper etc.

That’s it for now, Sunday, October 16, 2016.
