Winter 2015 January 4 Sunday

19 degrees this morning, 22 mph wind wind chill of 3 degrees,  36:59 minutes walking Two earthquakes

Cut walk short due to wind and temperature.  Actually not too bad, the part I skipped is the REALLY windy part that I feel.  (The houses etc. block the wind in the other areas.)  I could have used some “hot hands” today going to look for them.  The next three months are the worst of the year.

I need to get back to bicycle riding (not in this wind, but on more normal days).  I need to re-equip it with some good lights.  Previously (here) I rode in the daylight.  After I started my job, my scheduled was a problem, but I can work around it now, but I will need to ride in the dark.

The ice storm never really materialized (except for New Year Day morning in another part of the city), thank goodness.

I need to double check my entry to make sure I put in 2015 instead of 2014.  It is  taking me a while.  I am still getting used to putting “20” instead of “19”.

The other day I started to take a test that was going to forecast my age range.  However I flunked completely when the test asked me what TV show I liked most (or something similar) and I hadn’t watched or even really heard of any of them.  (There were several cartoon shows, (the Simpsons?) and one about a bar (I think), maybe “family life” or something like that.)  I guess I had heard of them, I just had no idea what they were about.

I watch “Jeopardy”   and some news shows, some sports, but that is about it besides music.  I do watch CNBC, especially Jim Cramer. (I do watch “Downton Abbey”, which maybe could be considered a series of a sorts).

However the questionnaire didn’t ask me about that!

The last TV  “series” show I actually watched was “Hill Street Blues”, which may be more of an indication of my age than anything!   I still would like to watch it again sometime.  I really identified with the Captain, who went from trivial personal matters to matters of life or death in a second.

He also had to deal with some of the “tricksters” who somehow managed to get hired in all professions, the outright crooks and the really dedicated persons, who thank goodness, I have found are the largest part of the population!

Overall, Police Officers have to love the profession to deal with all they have to deal with and still do a good job.  Most of them I have known love the profession and are dedicated to it.

Anyway, I really liked the show and haven’t really watched any such show or series since.  For a period, I want through a phase where I rarely watched TV (including sports or news) and didn’t have cable tv.

I  didn’t miss it at the time, but about 20 years ago, I got cable tv again and enjoy the the shows I do watch.  We actually tape 99% of the tv shows we watch (including sports, we just avoid hearing the scores.)

It works for us anyway.

I actually try to avoid quizzes like that (estimate your age etc.) because I figure they probably are trying to do it so they can direct ads to you at best, or torment you with e-mails or steal your identity.

Of course, it works both ways, one time I wanted to take a survey (I don’t recall what about) and I answered honestly about my gender and age.

They advised me the  “survey was closed” so I went to another browser and said I was a 24 year old female, and of course, was immediately invited to take the survey.

(I don’t make a practice of doing that, I wouldn’t waste the time, it was just a test to see if what I suspected was true.)

That’s it for now, Sunday, January 4, 2015.
