Winter 2015 January 1 Thursday

24  Degrees this morning, 50:27 minute walk, one earthquake

Happy New Year!  (As opposed to the Happy New York I wished everyone yesterday).  Perhaps I should resolve to cut off my spell check, but it still helps more than it hurts!.

Probably one Resolution I ought to make is to follow up on my “spell check” and see what bloopers it has made (as opposed to my bloopers, which can be just as bad!).

It doesn’t really feel like a new year, but it is.  Sometimes I think the New Year should have been Spring or even Summer, although I guess the fact that the days start to get longer after December 21, is something to celebrate.

I never was much one for “celebrating” the New Year anyway.  Even when I was a high school and college, I was more likely to take the time to review what I needed to do (I did make Resolutions then, which is probably why I don’t now:)

I’m not sure at what age I actually grasped what a “new year” was.  Maybe I haven’t yet!  All I know is they seem to go fast!

Watching some of the college bowl games.  It is fun to watch them, as long as they don’t get too lopsided.

Aliene and I had our traditional New Year Eve lunch, we normally eat at lunch time to avoid the evening crowds.  (For years we went to a New Year Eve party  with light food, so it made sense to make lunch our dinner and just go to the party and graze until midnight.)

We ate today at “On the Border”, which doesn’t do a lot for our healthy eating habits, but it sure is good!

I got a suggestion on my “cold hands” problem when I walk, which I hope will help.  I decided, unless is is raining or snowy, I will  try walking anyway.  I hope to find some  quality “hot hands” products.  Hopefully I can find some bike gloves with outside inserts for them. (Riding the bike, I need to maintain flexibility to shift gears etc..)

There is a new “On Cue” gas station opening up about 1/2 mile away.  (It is like a hyper 7-11, with a drive thru and all kinds of gas including natural gas and diesel, a coffee bar a wide selection of food etc).  There are a bunch of them opening up in this area.

It has it starting price at $169 per gallon, which is low for this area, where it has been around $1.79.  That probably means it is now around $1.55 in the part of town with low prices.

I feel loyal to 7-11 because it was the only stations that had reasonable precise for premium unleaded gas in this area.

All of the other gas stations advertised a low price for 10% ethanol  mixture, but they based their price for  premium based on the “100% gas”, so premium was frequently almost a dollar more per gallon than the advertised price.  It was almost a scam.

7-11  was the only gas station chain that maintained a decent price for premium (about 20 cents higher than the cheapest “regular”, so we just bought all of our gas at 7-11 and I continued when I got the car that takes “regular”.

It is difficult to  not remain loyal after every other station was intent on confusing pricing and they maintained their prices at a reasonable rate, so I have stayed loyal to 7-11 even with my new car that takes “regular”.

The only thing I don’t like about 7-11 is they don’t take all the credit cards others do.  I believe in using the credit card which provides the most “rewards” for something I may need, but I feel my  loyalty to 7-11 overrides that, plus I don’t spend that much for  gas in the overall scheme of things.

That’s it for now, Thursday, January 1, 2015.
