Winter 2015 January 19 Monday (Earthquakes, Wifi and NFL)

45 Degrees this morning, (forecast for 70 degrees today!) 57:45 minutes walking

My “earthquake” app is trying to extort me into purchasing a “custom filter” after it set the magnitude “filter” at 4.0 (meaning I don’t pick up the numerous earthquakes of 2.5 and above.  Most of the earthquakes in this area are between 2.5 and 4.

There was one 4.1 earthquake in the area in the last 24 hours.

Don’t buy the Oz earthquake apps.  I don’t mind paying for apps., but I hate extortion type techniques like this even if it is for a nominal amount.  I would have happily paid for it up front, but not like this!

Relaxing day yesterday, knowing today was going to be a holiday.  Got some more of my  pictures cleaned up etc.

Set up an “extender” for my wifi.  Yes, it is simply after someone explains to me how to do it!  I had to call Apple Computer support to get the “simple” instructions.  They (everyone, not just Apple) didn’t bother to advise of a necessary step that I’m sure they “assumed” “everyone” knew how to do!

Kali  had one of those puzzles (this was the 2 big nails that you had to get apart).  It is simple when you know the answer, like a lot of things!

I guess “life” isn’t that way, except that it frequently seems simple what you should have done when you look back on it!

After watching the first of the NFL football games, I remembered why I quit watching NFL football.  The overtime procedure is so unfair.  Yes, I know it is just a game and just entertainment, but when so many people spend so much money to see a game etc., it seems like something besides pure luck should be used to decide the game.

Of course, I also have found the season games to be boring.  The first game yesterday was good, although it is too bad that it is decided on pure luck.  Actually while I did watch some parts of the pervious games, the game yesterday was the first game I really watched all season.

But, I take the attitude I can take it or leave it, so I’ll just leave it.  The College football system is much fairer, if you have to have a playoff overtime system.

After my earplugs failed yesterday, I decided to fire up all my old iPod Shuffles (the oldest is about 8 years old, the) and they all charged up.

I am amazed that none of the batteries on Apple products have failed yet, and they date back to 2005, the iPods probably 2006.

I finished a book “We’re With Nobody” about investigating politicians for dirt.  Basically what they do is investigate politicians public  records for crimes etc.  It is amazing what they find and this is just in public records or, more technically correct, records legally available to the public.

Some of the politicians actually hire them to investigate THEM to see what might show and so they can prepare a defense.  It was interesting (they didn’t name any names), but the  techniques they used were interesting, all legal and involving public information.

Of course, it still doesn’t mean that people will vote based on the best candidate or ignore evidence of crimes, incompetence etc. in electing mayors etc.

Now I am starting to ready “Contagious” which is about how products, shows, YouTube videos etc. become major social events or go “viral, unique ways of promoting products etc.

He cited the blender that they showed videos of the blender blending marbles etc., which actually involved a cost of about $50.

I am just getting started, but it is a fascinating book.

They say far and above anything, “word of mouth” is the most important tool of any concept, idea, product, candidate etc. being successful in getting their message to the most people.

That’s it for now, Monday, January 19, 2015.
