Pittsburg, Kansas
40 degrees this morning
Pittsburg, Kansas for Uncle John’s Memorial Service.
Drove up last night, and in one of those unbelievable coincidences, as we parked at the hotel, my sisters and their husbands drove in at exactly the same time! That was after a 4 hour drive for us and a 7 hour drive for them!
We are still debating selling our current house and buying another one. Everything would really have to work out just right for it to work.
We really like our house and the neighborhood (right now), but when this city allows things like huge video boards right in the back of houses, a big strip mall with no buffer and a Sonic that that a 24 hour video sign and music right across from a residential area, it indicate the city has no concern for it’s residents.
We’ll find out more next week as we investigate the costs etc. If we stay where we are, we don’t really have any problems with that, we love the house, but we will just need to stay vigilant. Of course, the voting district is so gerrymandered, we may as ell not vote in the city elections for the Council Member.
While talking to the Realtor, he suddenly understood our feelings when he bought up (he bought it up not us) a neighborhood where a large commercial store went up right in the back yard of a neighborhood of very nice houses. The other buildings in the area were office type buildings etc. He said any attempts to sell the house went away as soon as people realized what was going in there.
While I love Braum’s, we also found out a Braum’s store was allowed to go right in the back yard (nothing but a six foot fence) of brand new houses. What poor planning on the part of the city! I just really can’t believe they have so little regard for residents.
We really don’t understand the thinking that assumes a six foot fence (or “vegetation, which could mean anything here , since there is little “vegetation” our here that will be large enough for screening!
It just displays a type of thinking by the city that we don’t want to live where there is so little concern for the residents and all kinds of excuses to allow commercial businesses to do whatever they please with no concern for residents. A shame they spend so much on downtown and nothing in residential areas or even have any concern for residents.
Veterans Day is one of the few holidays that come up in the middle of the week (well, not that few, July 4, New Year Day and Christmas all may fall in the middle of the week also). Actually I kind of like it, it is like a little gift in the middle of the week.
Of course, there’s not a lot you can plan on a holiday in the middle of the week (except for Christmas, which actually is a two day holiday), which may be the point.
I am at the point now, I don’t like missing my daily swim as much as I don’t like missing my daily walk! I do realize it is good to take a break occasionally, but I already take a Saturday/Sunday break on swimming automatically.
I have decided I will make sure I swim at least three times per week (except when traveling etc.). The weather basically dictates if I walk (if I am at home), since not much else goes on that that time!
Today we will remember Uncle John. Anyone who knew him will understand that we are truly celebrating his life and his contributions to a better world.
That’s it for now, Saturday, November 7, 2015.
