2016 Spring March 20 Sunday

31 degrees (feels like 24) this morning.  No walk (still have sore throat)

Happy to see the first day of Spring, although the temperature is very un-Spring like for this area!  Especially since I think this has been the first time weather has been under freezing for a month!

Still feels good to write “Spring” instead of “Winter”.

Think I am feeling better, hope not wishful thinking.  It has been a long time since I have had a sore throat like this for this long.

Just saw a quote “For every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness”.  It seems to be widely attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, but it also is credited to many other people and also slightly changes (peace of mind instead of happiness etc.)

I think that describes the choices we have in any decision or any time.  We can be angry about something or we can react in other ways.

I think being angry about some things is positive.  For example, when I see the “video billboard” some thug placed right in back of a house, I get angry and I really don’t mind getting angry.  Not only at Tyler Communications but at the city planners that allow such a crime to happen and than claim it is beyond their capacity to do anything about.

Ditto when I see huge ugly, unplanned commercial ruin residents investments in their homes when they build a huge commercial building right next to a residential area.

What kind of city is that???  i am amazed people don’t mass invade City Hall in protest.

Also, I am appalled at what I am reading about how they handle crimes locally.  Even for minor vehicle violations, local judges will pile on huge “bail” requirements, then they spend time in jail, lose their jobs and than get charged hotel rates for “staying” in an substandard overcrowded jail where violence is the norm.

This is even for Traffic Violations!  I assume it is even worse for minor violations that jail isn’t even usually a punishment, so they are in jail without conviction, just because they are poor.

So they get out, don’t have a job,and owe thousands of dollars for nothing, what do you expect them to do?  (I don’t know myself, probably disappear into a life of crime).

That is simply criminal activities by local government officials!

Darn right I get angry about that!  I don’t have a thing against high bail for violence offenders etc., but traffic violations?

At least locally, the County Presiding Judge (who apparently  had the authority to decide such things) is going to make some changes in the bail system so being poor isn’t a crime that will ruin your life!

I really have to wonder about a place where so called “leaders”  will stand by and watch residents lose their homes (or can’t sell themI) because of unrestricted commercial development and people lose their jobs because of some arbitrary rules about bail and some vicious requirement that they “pay” for their time in a substandard, overcrowded jail!

It almost sounds like something from 300 years ago, when debtors prisons were common!

And no, I haven’t gotten a traffic ticket and I moved from the city just because of their extremely poor planning practices and lack of concern for residents at a high cost to us personally just to get out.

Anyway.,  i may lose my 60 seconds of happiness when I get angry about this, but I don’t mind it in this case.

The one thing I regret about moving to a city with decent planning and that has at least some concern about residents, is that I lose a lot of ability to do something about the poor planning there since I no longer live there, but ….

That’s it for now, (I’m going to be happy for awhile!,) Sunday, March 20, 2016, the first day of Spring!
