Summer 2014 July 4 Friday (Move In II, The Walk)

Summer 2014 July 4 Friday (Move In II, The Walk)

75 degrees this morning.

Overall, the second (and final) day of move in went well.  As far as I’m concerned I will never use another moving company other than Cooper Moving.  They really do an excellent job.

Of course, the moving will continue for some time for us as we unpack and store items and put away (and give away and donate) items.  That is, after we find everything.  At least I can put the car in the garage.

Believe it or not, most, if not all,  of Aliene’s plants survived!  They may well have watered them, although they didn’t have any obligation to take care of them.

Internet, tv and phone were installed yesterday.  However, the cable company didn’t install most of the cable programs they were supposed to, and I don’t believe installed the internet speed they were supposed to.  They were interested in just getting in and out and it showed. They will be coming back until they get it right.  Good to have internet in my house again, although I will somewhat miss the sessions at McDonalds and Starbucks.

Also found out my old reliable laser jet printer is now “obsolete” and will not connect by wi fi with the new router.  Apple computer support talked with me for an hour, so they tried.

Took my first real walk through the neighborhood this( Friday) morning.  I live on 152nd Street and was going to walk to 164th Street and then down to a 24 hour fitness center, to see if I could bicycle there.

Sounds simple, just walk from 152nd to 164th.  However, this neighborhood is a canopy of coves (here there call them “courts” and “terraces”, which weave in and out.  I ended up walking for 1 hour and 11 minutes!  I actually made it to the Fitness Center without getting lost, but got lost coming back.  I quickly learned to avoid anything marked “court” or “terrace” since it was a cove.  It was actually an enjoyable walk.  Thank goodness the area is a “grid” and all E/W streets are numbered streets (152nd through 164th).

The area is not bad to walk in, most streets do have sidewalks, although I’m not sure I could ride my bike down them.  At the time I ride, 164th wouldn’t be that bad and the neighborhood would also be fine.

The neighborhood is a developers dream, numerous coves, large houses on small lots, very little public space, narrow streets, minimal public amenities .  It is almost like they made them build a swimming pool and clubhouse and than just let the developers do anything they wanted.

Lakeland ATC Fitness surprised me with their financial Shenanigans that, in my opinion, border on fraud.  First they insist you have to pay for the 30 day period AFTER you submit your termination notice (i.e., my month ended July 11, so even though I submitted my termination notice on June 29, I have to pay ANOTHER month after July 11.  That is just chicken and gouging the customers.

Then I get this letter, which I will forward to both the Arkansas and Tennessee Attorney General Offices and my Attorney, which, more or less says they can insist I am still a “member” and can  gouge me for fees for months unless I follow all of these complicated procedures.  I haven’t had time to really look at the letter yet, which I expect is their intent, so they can gouge me for fees.

I enjoyed going to the Lakeland ATC Fitness center, but I would never recommend it now, based on the way they treat their customers.  In my opinion, it is really a shady way to do business.

To disappoint me further, TiVo charged me for another month after they said  my June payment was my last.  That is why I rarely allow “automatic’ charges on my credit card and almost never on my bank account.

Looks like it is going to be a great day for the July 4th Holiday.

That’s it for now, Friday, July 4, 2014.
