Summer 2014 July 3 Thursday (Move In, The Dream)

66 degrees this morning.

Woke up with very strong dream this morning about a colleague from Tennessee.  Almost like he was trying to tell me something. We were talking about some vents and people and they www went to a large ancient construction area on a mountain.  It was my last day at Lakeland and that was why he was talking with me.  I dreamed I went to the mountain in the morning and then returned to work in a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt I wear which is associated with an event at Lakeland.

He was a colleague i respected a lot in a lot of ways, not so much in other ways, so what he said in the dream has an impact.

I occasionally will have dreams that I wake up thinking are real and I realize that most dreams are some type of way of consolidating the events of your life.  In this case, it is almost one of those very rare times when you almost call someone to see if they are all right or if they had a message they are trying to get to you.  I rarely remember my dreams, but this was an extremely powerful dream.  I woke up army usual time this morning, and then, since is is an important “move in” day, I went back to nap.  Perhaps that is the reasons for the dream, or perhaps I remember it since I woke up in the middle of it.  Or perhaps, I just miss talking with other City Managers and it is a means of dealing with the separation.

On the other hand, we never said goodbye, perhaps that was related to that.

Move-in truck one has been completed.  This included a lot of the furniture etc, but truck # 2 will include many of the dreaded boxes etc.  As  usual as itms came off the truck yesterday, the “best laid plans” changed to meet reality, perhaps for the better, perhaps not.  We saw a lot of stuff that we know we will be giving away/donating to lessen the burden of possessions.

Basically got the smoke detector “fixed” yesterday (in other words, we got ti down).  We did get new batteries for all the smoke detectors, now just need to get them back up.  Whoever made those has to be a sadist.

Internet, phones and cable tv today!!! I have really missed the internet, of course now everyone will be calling my cell phone now instead of our home phone and it will be nice to have tv again.

We actually slept on our bed again, for the first time since June 22, so  that as nice.  The air mattress did a good job, we can’t complain about it.

In tribute to Cooper Moving (I hope they will come here to move us in a future move!), all of Aliene’s  plants lived!  They have to be the greatest moving company ever.  The moving people are so nice and really try to take care of our possessions, plus they are fun to talk with.  I’d never use another moving company if Cooper Moving were available.  I expect they only move around and from Memphis.

Doesn’t seem like July 4.  Aliene mentioned last night about a good friend we normally spent the 4th with, probably for most of the past 8 or so years, so perhaps that is it.  On the other hand, since today is July 3, perhaps that is why it doesn’t seem like July 4!
Back at my early morning visit to McDonalds.  The internet is humming and the coffee is good and the music is great.

Preparing psychologically for “final” move in.  After that there will be (probably weeks) of “move-around” as we sort items, throw away and donate and decide what the mission of each room will be.

Strange that we ended up living in an area close to a major mall, a major interstate and numerous businesses (Starbucks, Wal Mart, Sams, Target, and most other chain and some local businesses).  At least our area retains it’s residential feel and we can’t hear any noise from traffic etc.  It could get wild around Christmas..  We are actually closer than we were at Lakeland.

That’s it for now, Thursday, July 3, 2014.
