2017 Summer September 7 Thursday
60 degrees this morning, walk 35:10 minutes
Same temperature as yesterday, and the forecast appears to indicate cool weather is basically here to stay although with random hot days.
Pace was 3 seconds slower than my goal.
Found my “lifetime warranted “ walking socks in a drawer and realized as I walked that sometimes quality is worth the money. The socks were probably about 10 times or maybe five times the price of the socks I normally buy (about $11 a pair at the time I bought them), but they are well worth it.
Like the new shoes, I was surprised at the difference after not wearing them for a long time.
Overall, I think it is worth the extra cost to buy “quality” up to a certain point. Especially at my age, since most things I buy I will literally have for the rest of my life, I may as well buy quality and enjoy it.
I don’t always know when I am buying higher “quality” than I need, but I would rather err on the side of too much quality than not.
Too many times I ended up buying something because it was inexpensive and it was actually a lot more expensive in the end because I ended up never using it and giving it away.
Learned about some changes in my work areas last night. As always, there is some regret in change as well as some anticipation of the “new”. A combination would have been nice, but I just go with the flow.
As always, change is also somewhat stressful, so to speak, even if it is good.
Back to my discussion about electricity. I just read last night about Russia (or whomever) using hacking to shut down the electrical power grid. I have no doubt they have the capacity, I just hope we have the capacity to block it!
However, again, it emphasizes the importance of development of high capacity batteries that can be used for commercial buildings and residential dwellings. It makes a lot of sense, especially considering combining it with storing renewable energy as they do in California.
I expect electric cars will be a major factor in the development of batteries, as they develop batteries that will power cars for longer trips as well as houses and commercial buildings.
Noted this morning that my cold weather asthma appears related to how much I eat (as far as how much I cough). Hmmm, might be a lesson there. Of course, it appears that the less I eat the day before, the less i cough.
Interesting, may not be any connection except in my mind!
That’s it for now, Thursday, September 7, 2017
