2017 Summer September 3 Sunday
73 degrees this morning, walk 35:22 minutes
Again, very pleasant morning, although the humidity is 90%. Overall good walk, although it was one of those mornings when I wouldn’t have minded it if was raining!
Actually did rain yesterday, right after my walk. It had cleared up by sunlight and turned out to be a nice day.
Pace was 16 seconds slower than my goal pace. I am a little bothered about why my pace has suddenly slowed somewhat. 16 seconds a mile isn’t much, but I am puzzled why I have suddenly slowed a little.
Almost in the middle of the 3 day weekend (I don’t count it as half over until noon on Sunday).
As I have mentioned previously, I really like holidays, even more than vacation days, since it means that regular work is basically stopped, except for emergencies, for that day. I still think it is strange that 8 of the 11 “holidays” are from November 11 to February 19 or so. Basically 8 of 11 holidays in a 3 1/3 month period of a 12 month year.
Strange to write September 3, 2017 already. I don’t like to sound like a repeating slogan, but it is hard to believe time goes so fast. In about 2 1/2 weeks, Fall will start.
However, Fall brings sine good things. The new iPhone, especially this year, all of the Holidays as I mentioned. Now that I think of it, I can’t think of many more good things just because of the time of year, although I’m sure I could think of something!
Doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of good things going on, it is just the cold weather itself doesn’t really have any redeeming qualities. I guess not having to take care of the lawn is one good thing, although it is counterbalanced by the possible snow and ice, although it isn’t that bad here. It is just the continual cold and coolness which seems to last until late May.
It is interesting to listen to the change that electricity created for our society. It basically extended the day, since it provided safe lighting in the dark.
Also, it provided much better refrigeration, meaning it changed type of food people ata, since it provided for safer storage of food.
Even today, electricity, while we don’t marvel at it every day, we definitely miss it when it goes out!
It actually played a big role in transportation etc. and in electric appliances making it much easier as well as new processes in factories etc.
One of the big questions in the late 1800’s (before the advent of the car etc.) was the question of whether horse manure was going to overwhelm cities! Of course this was followed by the still lingering question of the impact of car exhaust.
That’s it for now, Sunday, September 3, 2017.
