23 degrees this morning (feels like 10), 91% humidity

Temperature yesterday went from  70 degrees high to 23 Degree.  Appears to be some light rain, no snow yet (that is sticking anyway).  Yesterday they were predicting 2-3 inches, but it looks like that has changed to minimal snow/rain, if any.  Thank goodness!

I continue to be amazed at the ignorance and pandering of “leaders”.   The Governor of this state has decided to reduce Regulations without determining if they are useful or not.  Just reduce regulations.

He copied from the lying coward lunatic and his insane pandering policies of eliminating regulations regarding food and environmental safety;

Companies are now spewing toxins into the air, employee safety is being  compromised, companies are now permitted to dump sewage in fresh water, contaminating drinking water and killing fish after the lunatic “reduced regulations”.

Also meat and food is not as safe (nor airplanes) due to lack of Inspectors. Coal companies are allowed to spew coal dust in rivers and on cities.

Of course, the Governor ran on a platform that he didn’t know anything about governing and he is proving it every day.

I can’t believe he thinks the effects of reducing regulations are “good," it probably just sounds politically good to him and he has the same type of cowering toadies as the lying coward lunatic who are scared to disagree with him.

Regulations can be good or bad, and there is nothing wrong with analyzing them.  But to take a “meat ax” approach is ignorant at best, and could be very destructive.

Of course the lying coward lunatic reduces regulations so his donors, lobbyists and his buddies can rip off huge “profits’ by polluting the environment, reducing safety standards and generally allowing them to do what they want in exchange for huge 'donations”.

The lying coward lunatic continues to make terroristic  actions  on low income people (food stamps, medical care, other benefits , etc., all so he and his donors and lobbyists can rip off a few more dollars.

The lunatic continues to attempt to dehumanize other races, low income people and anyone who disagrees with him.  Totally disgusting,

I don’t “reducing bad regulations”  is the intent of the state “reducing regulations," I just think it is ignorance and pandering for votes and donations from companies who will make huge profits by reducing safety, polluting more , etc.

Sad that our “leaders” have fallen to such shameful, dangerous and pandering actions,

Watching a “Frontline” show about El Paso, I am shocked that anyone can support the vicious, obvious lies, and  racist language of the lying coward lunatic.  He is truly insane and I can’t understand how the coward toadies can actually support this lunatic who is destroying our county.

Agree or disagree with the immigration policies, no one should be forced to live in such inhumane conditions.  They are treated much worse than animals.

63 degrees this morning, 93% humidity

Wonderful day yesterday, 69 degrees high, little wind.  Couldn’t be a more perfect January day.

Supposedly, the high today is 68 degrees with a lot of 22 degrees!  There is a good chance of thunderstorms, with it not getting cold until tonight.

Snow, rain and cold weather is forecast for Saturday A good day to stay in!
Supposed to get warmer Sunday which will melt all the snow.

Feeling better every day, still not feeling as well as I feel I should.  The coughing starts occasionally which literally wears me out.

Hard to believe last Friday I was feeling great and it was only Saturday morning (last weekend) when I started sleeping so much.

It feels like it has ben a lot longer than that!  Of course, that doesn’t count the pneumonia, but I had pretty well recovered from that (I thought).

Thinking some more about developing a “personality” of a City based on its early founders, businesses, leaders and residents.  Of course events play a major role also  have observed.

Someone mentioned to e years ago that every city has a few “golden years”  where the leadership has the courage, dedication, vision and intelligence to make some progressive changes.  They said this might come up once every several generations.

By “progressive” I am referring to needed changes, not any political philosophy.

Normally the “golden period” is just a few years, and the point the person was making was it was a time to get grants, and otherwise support the leadership in their attempt to make a better community.

At the time we were working  with small communities, I have noted it applies to all communities.

I think one caution might be to remember that “extremism brings extremism," so while changes should be made while they can the Leadership needs to look around occasionally and make sure the community is still supporting them.

I remember something I read years ago, “There they go, I must hasten after them, I am their Leader”.

I’ll put it on my “round tu-it” list and read an article on the subject occasionally to see if it is worth while following up.

That’s it for now, Friday, January 10, 2020.

57 degrees this morning, 78% humidity

Yesterday was a high of 64 degrees, but the wind made it uncomfortable and cold (what little time I spent outside)!

Doctors visit was ok. Actually very helpful as normal, we are lucky to have such a good Doctor  As I expected, he prescribed more antibiotics, hopefully the will take care of it  Still show some signs of pneumonia, but I feel a lot better tonight.

This morning I was literally at a place where I just didn’t have time to write a full post.  One of those days.

I am very tired of not feeling well, so I hope I recover soon.

I was thinking the other evening, (maybe part of my illness)!, that “Original Kansan” is “OK” and Oklahoma is “OK”.  Not sure what that means, but I have never thought of  it that way.

I thought of it when Tennessee played Missouri that I thought about the natural rivalry between “Original Kansans” (born in Kansas) and Missouri.  May not be all that intense, but it dates back to Statehood.

It is interesting to think of how the early culture affects the current “mindset” of a
State, city or community.

A recent book noted that a City founded by cheaters and thieves, may not mean everyone in the leadership is anything close to a cheater or thief,  but it may mean that some unusual actions are taken based on the original culture.  (I won’t name the City, since I’m sure every city has some founders who were less than honest or even outright crooks.)

It would be interesting to try to follow this concept through, although I’m not sure how you would do so, except in very broad strokes.

Probably the best process would be to study the founders and leadership through the years to determine any common threads.

The book “Prairie City”   examines the intricate details of a city (although it was a composite of several cities and included a lot of strong regional influences.

I had the good fortune to read it years ago, but never have gone back to re-read like I planned too.

Just thinking about it, it would be hard to ignore the regional trends on the cultural, social and economic  development of a City.

I need to analyze the  process and at least see what the process is, or rather what procedures and processes are possible.

I kind of feel like I am feeling better, just thinking about doing something again besides just feeling better!

It was so strange, Friday, January 3, I was bursting with energy and plans and then Saturday, January 4, I was a sleeping pod, so to speak, and haven’t felt much better until last night.

One of the strangest experiences of my life, I don’t recall ever feeling like this for such a long period.  I have had coughing spells , etc., for long periods, but normally not the feeling that I am “underwater”  or wanted sleep so much for a long time.

Worried about getting back into exercise, but can’t do much about that now.

43 degrees this morning, 40% humidity

Unfortunately, pneumonia systems have returned, although I’m not sure if it is actually pneumonia or just a fever of some sort.

I do have a Doctors appointment early this morning.

Yesterday, I just slept all last night, which obviously is not my usual pattern.

Going to go ahead and post this and will update later today or tomorrow morning.  Hoping the wonders of modern medicine will be there.

The  ironic thing is that if I hadn’t had the Doctor appointment this morning, I probably would have gone for a checkup at “convenient care” Sunday and for sure Monday.

29 degrees this morning, 69% humidity

Overall  cooler and windy day yesterday.  I made the mistake of trying to walk several blocks and realized just how cold and windy it was!

Read an article today critically of the “sudden death” playoff in NFL football.  Actually, that was when I lost interest when a coin flip could decide the ball game.  College does it much better.

I actually don’t know what is wrong with a tie during the regular season, but whatever.  If they are going to have a tie-breaker (with the few games football has), it seems like the losing team ought to get some kind of credit if they lose a tie game.

On my cough etc, I have been having a variety of symptoms.  Seeing the doctor tomorrow to determine if the pneumonia is completely gone.

Hopefully I will start feeling better and  continue the process on goals I started Friday night!

An office day today, thank goodness. For one thing, I have a LOT of office work to do and it will be nice not to have to go outside extensively before I go to the Doctor.

I do need to get going on learning the latest advances in the Echo “assistant” I see all of the advances in robots, technology etc. and marvel at how they can invent such items

Part of the problem is the “lead time” in learning a new program, or even a new device, and I”m never really sure it will be worth my while to learn it. I have learned many programs, and had fun with them, but there is was a matter of “what do I do with it now”!

Examples are Garage Band (fun, but…I can’t spend my time creating music), Keynote, again fun, but how many slide shows do you do, and most programs have an excellent slide show component  (at least iPhoto does).

Not complaining, I don’t regret learning the programs, just it makes me hesitant to learn new programs.

But that is one reason I like the “Apple ecosystem”.  Once I learn something on one device, I don’t need to relearn it.

That is especially handy for calendars, Notes, Reminders, photos, etc.

The one problem with Apple Text’s is it is  phone  number specific.  Of course, we just use Messenger so I can cross over all my phone numbers as well as people who prefer other phones,

29 degrees this morning,  78% humidity

Another nice day yesterday.  Unfortunately we both were still feeling slightly “under the weather," or a least close, so we didn’t go outside in spite of the wonderful day.

Of course, this morning it is 29  degrees, although it is forecast to go back up to 53 degrees which can be an “iffy” temperature depending on the wind.

Feel a lot better today, at least I feel like doing more than just sleeping!   My coughing has actually deceased some, I’ll see.

Actually watched our first NFL football game, the Tennessee vs. New England game.  We feel some loyalty to Tennessee plus, quite frankly, we wanted to see New England eliminated from the playoffs.

Next week we’ll watch the Tennessee and the Kansas City games at least. At some point during the playoffs, I tape all of them.

I had to do some dodging Sunday morning to avoid seeing the score of the Tennessee-New England game until we watched the last half!  One of the problems with taping sports is that everyone is so good about getting the scores out!

Actually we watched some of our favorite teams in the college bowl games.  Absolutely NONE of them won!  Actually since New Year Day was so quiet, I watched bowl games and, even the ones I was slightly in favor of lost!

Of course I know we had nothing to do with the losses and the cycle will probably turn next year.  There have been years when all or most of our teams have won.

The start of this New Year has been unusual to say the least. No ham and black-eyed peas yet , etc.

Looking forward to another Spring and Summer.  I know I have to go through Winter to get there.

The problem is warm weather doesn’t normally “really” start until mid-May, which is 4 months away.  There is always some warm days during that period, but a lot of cool days also.

One tradition we have that I like is we celebrate the “Twelve Days of Christmas," so our decorations stay up until about January 10 or 12.  We don’t have a lot of outside decorations, mostly inside.

I always enjoy the extended Christmas decorations.
I don’t really remember how long we left up the tree , etc., when I was a child.  My Dad would never put up the tree or Christmas decorations until his music Christmas events were complete, which is understandable.

43 degrees this morning 62% Humidity.

Cool day yesterday, however no wind.

Strange day, I just felt extremely tired all day.  Hopefully just a reaction to my medicine regime for my pneumonia It isn’t unusual for me to get very tired towards the end. However, I don’t recall it happening to this extent.    ‘

In a way, I feel like yesterday was a “lost day” since I really got nothing done, except sleep and eat.

I was so productive Friday night, it was a complete reversal on Saturday to where I felt draggy all day.

I did make progress on Evernote Friday, now I just need to implement what I learned.  I probably will need to play around with it some, but if I get it to do what I want to do, that will be a major step.

Reading about the “2020” forecasts, “progress made in last 20 years,," , etc.  The smart phone, personal computers , etc., really have changed our lives and culture.

I was just thinking of the first time I had GPS in a rental car (about 20 years ago).  I was amazed.  Actually I’m mot sure if the GPS technology in cars has advanced much since then although it has advanced in other areas.

What is scary about technology is that “1984” (the book) is now achievable, easily achievable and probably in use in some countries?

Of course, I never thought we had to worry about it in the United States, but it obviously could happen anywhere.

34 degrees this morning 77% humidity

Excellent weather day yesterday, a little cool and windy, but overall ok. At least one more day of Winter gone.

Just realized I hadn’t noted the “monthly anniversary” of our move here.  January 2 marked 5 years and six months since our move here (assuming we moved on the 2nd, which is when our furniture arrived).

This also marks 5 years and 4 months for my current job.  I have to admit it isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I moved here, but I don’t think I could have found a better fit or a job I enjoy more.

As with all jobs or situations, some things I like more than others, but that is the trade-off.

The first of the month is also when I get most of my new assignments at work, which tends to provide the atmosphere of “you’re got mail”.  It is always interesting to look at my challenges for the month.

We are approaching four years in our house, a wonderful house.  We were able to “toss” a lot of stuff, but still need to throw out or give away a lot if we decide to move to a smaller house in the future.

As I have mentioned before, the problem with a house (when you are like me and totally inept at home repair projects) is finding someone to do the necessary repairs and maintenance on the house.

Finally got started on “Evernote”.  While I have “e-mailed” my journal into Evernote for years, I wanted to started e-mailing copies of business and other e-mails for specific projects.

Actually, there is quite a lot I can do with “e-mailing’ into Evernote, just need to make sure I get it set up right.

I was surprised I could e-mail reminders with alerts!

In a lot of ways, I think Apple “Notes” is almost as good the way I have been using it.  However after looking at the potential of Evernote, I can see where it could be beneficial.

Looked a little at “templates”.  That will be next project, after I get the e-mailing and reminders and alerts learned.

As I noted before, the way I learn best is by doing it, so I will concentrate on using and learning what I want to learn.

42 degrees this morning, 82%humidity

Overall nice day yesterday, high of around 58, sunny.

I had an “office day” yesterday, so I hope today is the same or better since I have a “field day” tomorrow.  Always nice to have good weather on a field day.

Probably one of the more unusual New Year starts, with all of the illness , etc.  A very quiet New Year Day , etc.  I do recall one Christmas a few years ago (well, like 22 years), I had the flu over a 4 day Christmas weekend and just laid in bed and felt more sick because I was losing my 4 day Holiday!

I hate to get sick on Holidays, although sometimes I feel maybe there may be some psychological reason.  Your responsibilities  suddenly decrease and you allow yourself to be sick!  Maybe not, but you never know.

Anyway, I am already looking forward to the next 3 day Holiday!  One more after that in February and then the long drought until Memorial Day.

I will kind of try to plan vacations, so there are breaks.  I love my work, but also I realize the value of getting away.

One problem with using Apple products is for some reason, the web browser (Safari) is always one of the last ones to be updated for new programs.

Even my bank (fortunately our secondary bank), “bill pay” suddenly wouldn’t work, and they told me that the their IT advised them Safari wouldn’t work yet, although they are “working on it”.

They thought Google Chrome or Firefox would work on it but, it means I need to drag out my user name and password and try them in a new browser.  I really don’t understand how they don’t consider the huge Apple computer user component.  I really Microsoft has about 10 times the users, but Apple is surely significant .

It is funny, they gave instructions for what to do in Safari and now I find out it doesn’t work anyway!

I always hated the excuse “Working on It’ and tried to make sure we never used it  (Water line Break, “working on it”, power out “working on it”, pothole repair “working on it”. )

I always thought it was better to provide some kind of schedule, especially if you emphasize it is a tentative schedule, but at least it is a schedule.

Much as I don’t like Cox Cable for their price gouging and petty viciousness, they do try to give you some idea of when an outage will be over and offer to text you when it is over.  (Although I’m not sure if I have ever actually gotten a text when they were finished.)

48 degrees this morning, 81% humidity

Weather-wise a wonderful day yesterday,

I am feeling much better from my respiratory problems. However there is some kind of stomach virus going around (not the flu, although that is also) and is making a lot of people very sick.

I won’t go into detail, just say I don’t want it,

It did make for an unexpected calm and introspective New Year Day.  Many people were just too sick to do anything but try to recover.

Actually I didn’t do a lot of introspective thinking, just did some general planning for the year, figure out all of my absences, worked on Evernote a little and started to think about investments and taxes for the year.

I think I finally have my Calendar in my mind where I remember to add events (as soon as I learn about them, no matter how little time I think I have).  That helps a lot!  The more dependable my calendar becomes the more likely I am to use it,  The more I use it, the more likely I am to add my activities too it!

It helps a lot that the “alert’ function is so good.

One of the big problems with my job is I am expected to make appointments for some types of items.  Of course, that is fine, except that it ties up your day, especially if you have an appointment way out of my normal pattern that day, thus adding a lot of non-productive time.

If I don’t have to make appointments, I can schedule my day much better.  However, the calendar helps me stay efficient.

I can’t say as much about the “reminders”.  Even if I remember to add a “reminder," I normally forget to check for it.  Of course, the logically action would be to put a note on my calendar to check my reminders at times during the day!

Actually, Evernote has an excellent reminder system, but I need for it to go to my text, not my e-mail.  I know if I forwarded more e-mails to Evernote, it would help out a lot.

I wish the “reminder” app on the Apple worked better, or maybe I need to learn how to use it better!

A lot of it is just using “deep thinking” time to concentrate and just accomplish some of projects I am working on.  Most of them are just one “deep thinking” session away form being accomplished.

First day of work in 2020 today, my major problem is going to be to remember it is 2020 and not 2019!

40 degrees this morning, 49% humidity

Must better than originally forecast for this morning, forecast was for around 27 degrees.  I’m not complaining!  This is also the lowest humidity I can remember here.

Beautiful day yesterday, after an early morning cold of around 26 degrees  High of about 60 degrees and sunny. Not a bad day for my first field day for several weeks.

Coughing , etc., is getting better.  Having some small side effects from the medicine, but I’ll take it compared to the other.  Hopefully looking forward to getting back to exercise again.  While I try to take the “long route” of walking , etc., it isn’t near as good as just getting out and walking, swimming or biking and I really miss that aspect of my life right now.

I think I always worry that this will be the time when I can’t get back into it.

January 1, 2020, a new year and decade. As I mentioned, don’t really have any Resolutions other than to continue living each day to the fullest!

I know there will be major changes in our lives, if not this year, then in the decade.  On January 1, 2030, we will be 10 years older and society and our culture all have 10 years of what I assume is rapid change.

I’m not sure if on January 1, 2010, I really considered what would happen in the next ten years.  Certainly some major changes in a lot of areas.  While there were some major sudden changes, most of the changes were incremental.

Actually eight new children joined our family (on all sides), which is quite a change in itself as a new generation is born and the generation taking flight in 2010 started their own families.

Of course the worst event was the “election” of an incompetent, delusional, lying coward as president who only appoints cowering incompetent cowards who tells him what they think he wants to hear.  If he happens to appoint someone competent, they are soon gone with a childish, boorish tirade by a coward who hides behind Twitter as he lays in bed and gouges on fast food and watches trash news.

What a disaster for our nation and society that this scum has any authority and worse yet the people that support him and allow  this disaster to happen as they sell their souls to get more money or whatever.

Anyway, hopefully 2020 will bring major changes and this lying coward won’t be able to steal another election with the assistance of the Russians and his coward toadies.

If everyone started squealing the “big lie, always blame someone else” like this lying incompetent coward does, we couldn’t believe anyone,

Looking forward to a day of relaxation and enjoying the first day of the year and decade.  Maybe a small Resolution not to eat too much today!  There is still some illnesses going around in the family which is always a concern.

That’s it for now, Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
