41 degrees this morning (feels like 31), humidity 61%
Waiting for a really warmish day, it seems like it has been forever since we had even a warmish day, maybe today. While I didn’t hear the details, I heard something about “all kinds of weather” over the next ten days, including “spring like weather”!
I am almost recovered from my flu or whatever, but still have some lingering effects that I hope I can shake by this weekend.
Read something about how the book on “tidying up” as a way of organization is hurting thrift stores. Didn’t read the article, don’t know if it means people aren’t buying or aren’t donating.
I read the book, but somehow it didn’t leave me with any “joy” for organizing. As with many such books, it is merely a repackaging of existing ideas. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing to get excited about. If it works for someone, that is good. It didn’t work for me, but then none has!
Over the years, I’ve read a lot about how to organize better, all without any really noticeable effect! One of the really motivating ways to organize is to move!
Actually I have found taking pictures of what I have and the internet (I can always replace it) as motivating factors in organization and getting rid of “stuff”. I have been looking at many of my items and see no reason to keep them, so now I just need to motivate myself to dispose of them.
It still is hard to dispose of stuff when in the past things I kept for years were suddenly useful. There is nothing that brings more joy than being able to wear a pair of jeans that haven’t fit me for years!
However, an old hat is just an old hat and it is unlikely, much as I may like it, or much as it brings back memories, it is still an old hat taking up space. Or an old book, or other larger articles.
I figure I’ll take a picture of them, file them as “hats” and give them away.
Probably the one that makes me feel the most guilty is the coats I have had for literally years and never wear. They take up a lot of space and someone could use them.
Ditto with t-shirts, shirts, and other articles. How I ever got so many pens (as in advertising writing pens), I’ll never know. I gave away a bunch several years ago and “weeded and weeded” and they actually seem to grow!
Kind of like a salad, it seems to grow as you eat it! (Obviously I am not a “salad person”, although there are a few salads I like. I wish I was a “salad person”, but I’m afraid it just isn’t there!
Going to try to start organizing again, I may keep a short journal of what I am able to dispose of! Maybe it will make it more real.
That’s it for now, Thursday, March 7, 2019.
