2017 Spring May 7 Sunday

63 degrees this morning, walk 34:56 minutes

Warmer walk this morning.  “Hot” day yesterday, first day really “hot” in the summer sense.  Thank goodness, it felt great!

Pace this morning was 16 seconds per mile slower than my goal, which surprised me since I thought I was going faster than than that.  Sometimes your perception of how you are doing isn’t all that good.

One of those strange things started that kind of weigh on your mind.  For some reason two of our doors started rattling.  We kind of expect it may be related to the HVAC system, but we aren’t sure.

I looked it up on the internet and found it isn’t an uncommon problem, although I couldn’t find any relationship between door rattling and the HVAC system, I have a feeling that it is part of it.

However, as I mentioned, it is something that kind of looms over you like a huge storm cloud until you get it fixed.  I thought it might be warm weather, but I think heat expands and cold contracts, so that means it should rattle in winter, not summer.

We are having our HVAC annual check this week so hopefully that will tell us something, at least it will narrow the causes (if it isn’t the HVAC).

Trying to decide if we should decide to get a second “Next” thermostat and have decided to do it even wth the initial cost, we think it will pay off shortly.  Since the HVAC person will be here next week he can install it while he is here.

Since that thermostat controls only the temperature in the upstairs which isn’t used a lot, it makes sense to get one.  At least I think it does!

A rather strange episode on me.  Yesterday morning we had breakfast at a place we eat at on aa regular basis.  I won’t name it obviously, but on Yelp  we have been there over 100 times in the past three years.

Anyway I don’t really care for a lot of pancakes all that much (for various reasons including the carbs and the fact that pancakes don’t always like me if I eat many of them), but I do really like to have one or so.

I also love peanut butter, so I normally order peanut butter and one pancake instead of toast etc.  A small pancake with peanut butter and syrup (or honey) is like a little dessert at breakfast, kind of like sunshine popping out on a cloudy day.

Anyway they always have bought the peanut butter in one of those little cups (dipped out of a jar  I assume), so it is always enough for my pancake. (There is no such thing as too much peanut butter, just like there is no such thing as too much fun or a girl too pretty etc.).

They usually have a small charge for it (.79 in this case), which is fine.

Too bring the story to a close, yesterday they bought one of those little tiny pre-packaged packets of peanut butter.  I knew it wouldn’t be enough, so I asked for another one.  The server advised me there were be another .79 charge.

To say the least, for some reason that went through me like a lightning bolt (not a good feeling) and I, perhaps, threw a little fit and just said to forget it.  I also told Aliene we were never coming back.  (I did get another peanut butter with no charge but that wasn’t the point).

I told Aliene I hoped they didn’t think I was just a crabby old man.  I would have always reacted like that.

Hard to explain why, since it obviously wasn’t the money, it was the feeling I was being gouged, like the airlines, cell phone companies etc. just causally gouge you with fees (which I feel is the major reason for the reason anger towards airlines).

It is just a feeling you aren’t being respected as a customer after we had been loyal even through a few bad meals!  If it had been a chain restaurant I probably would have kind of expected it and not had such a reaction!

That’s it for now, Sunday, May 7, 2017.
