2017 Spring May 22 Monday

56 degrees this morning, walk 34:14 minutes

Walk this morning, while cool, was good.  Pace was 15 seconds below my goal.  Maybe it is time to change the goal by lowering it by 15 seconds.

My disgust with technology (or at least what the companies say is technology) increased yesterday with the breakdown of almost a brand new Canon printer, which I can say without any exaggeration is a piece of junk that has never worked right.

Problems started at the first and of course I should have immediately returned it, but they basically told me to unplug it for 30 seconds, stand on my head for 10 seconds (or maybe it was press the on/off button for 30 seconds) etc. which should have told me right then it was a piece of junk.

Of course, now I can’ only get through to the “manufacture” whose only support hours are like 10 to 5 p.m. if you can get through.

To top it off, I bought some ink from Amazon and in spite of it clearly saying the ink is for this printer, it isn’t.

Maybe retail isn’t dead after all, with the extremely poor service and failure to accept responsibility like that from Amazon.   There is a lot to be said for being able to take the product into the store and having someone who is local and you can talk to about the problem.

Of course, printers have always been a problem with me, but this one really takes the cake for being a piece of absolute junk, I”ll never buy a Canon product again, poor products and poorer service.

On another subject, my “walking shoes” just went over 50% of their life expectancy (as far as my daily walk etc.)   While I kind of round off (to the lower level) the mileage it is relatively accurate.

Again, it is one of those cases where what is “new” suddenly becomes “old”, without any real sense of transition, one day you look at it and realize it is no longer “new” as such.  Still good shoes, but I”m sure they have deteriorated some.

Our newest car is something like that, I suddenly realized it is almost 3 years old.  Of course, for it I intended to have it last 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and it is about 40% of 100,000 mils and probably 40% of 7 years (maybe a little more).  Anyway, while it isn’t “new” anymore, like the shoes, it has a lot of life left in it, although the shoes life is based in months and the cars life in years.

Preparing s speech for Toastmasters, my speech on “Algorithms in Daily Life” just never came together, so I switched to a “Story” manual, which I always enjoy.

Every day I get up hoping that warm weather has finally arrived.  I think this is the hardest part of the year because you think of May as being warm weather, but it is still cool in the morning.  Of course, it is a lot better than 20 degrees etc., but my expectations are about 20 degrees warmer!

Monday start of another week.  I expect it will go fast, like all  the work weeks have.  Helps that this is a three day weekend coming up!  I really like my job but I also found it is good to have weekends and I don’t have to work on the weekends!

That’s it for now, Monday, May 22, 2017.
